Major Hurricane Wind Warning

HELENE EXPECTED TO BRING CATASTROPHIC MAJOR HURRICANE-FORCE WINDS TO THE BIG BEND LATER THIS EVENING.

Hurricane Helene is forecast to make landfall later today along the Big Bend region of Florida's Gulf coast. Helene is forecast to bring sustained winds well-above major hurricane-force by this evening.

Details:

When: From Thursday, September 26 at 10 AM EDT to Friday September 27 at 12 AM EDT
Where: From From Aucilla River, Florida to Suwannee River, Florida, and extending up to 10 miles inland from these watch points.
Magnitude: In the warning area, sustained winds could reach up to 145 mph with potential local wind gusts of 175 mph. These life-threatening conditions are expected to begin in the next 12 hours, particularly by 10 PM EDT as the eyewall approaches the coast.

Hazardous Wind Watch

Sustained winds of hurricane-force (75 mph or greater) are possible, or wind gusts could exceed 80 mph. Usually a watch is issued within 72 hours of the onset of winds.

Hazardous Wind Advisory

Wind gusts could reach 75 mph within the next 72 hours.

Major Hurricane Wind Warning

Issued when sustained winds of 115+ mph are expected within 12 hours from a major hurricane.
